Life Before the Program
Proscovia’s life was a relentless battle against poverty and despair. As a widow and mother of eight, she struggled to provide for her family while living in a crumbling, overcrowded room with 12 relatives. Basic needs, food, bedding, shelter, were luxuries beyond reach, turning survival into a daily fight. Her house, made of mud and rusted iron sheets, stood near a sewage stream, where the overpowering stench of an overflowing latrine made eating unbearable. During heavy rains, her home was nearly destroyed, its walls bulging, its roof leaking, forcing her children to endure wet and unsafe conditions. COVID made things worse, heightening their suffering despite emergency food relief efforts. Each visit from helpers revealed heartbreaking scenes, children sitting quietly, lost in thought, fearing what tomorrow might bring. At 45, Proscovia bore the weight of her family's survival alone, after her husband’s passing, navigating constant fear for her children's health, safety, and future. Her life was uncertainty, her hope fragile, but her strength unshaken.

Despite immense hardship, Proscovia’s unwavering strength keeps her family going. Love and determination fuel her fight for a safer, brighter future for her children. With support, she believes a better life is within reach.
