Program Budget and Emergency Costs

We maintain daily and weekly budgets for our programs based on the resources and provisions available. However, unexpected emergencies such as medical needs, sewing machine repairs, or equipment replacement can arise and require additional funds. Because program materials are purchased and stored in larger quantities, we also need to maintain sufficient funds on hand to respond to these needs promptly and ensure that training activities continue without unnecessary interruptions.

Our average daily program budget is approximately $120, which primarily covers meals, transportation, and other essential participant needs. Many of the mothers and teen mothers attend the program with their young children because they may not have anyone available to care for them at home. This creates additional costs that must be considered when planning the program budget.

We recognize that supporting the women and teen mothers also means considering the wellbeing and safety of their children. Allowing children to remain with their mothers during program activities gives participants greater peace of mind and enables them to remain actively engaged in training. It also acknowledges their continuing responsibilities as mothers while providing a safe and supportive environment for both participants and their children.

About Sta Wing for Women

Our Women and Community Programs are encompassed with quite a number of programs, all focusing on empowering women through community involvement, prayer, practical support, and skills development. The programs encourage women to support one another, participate in community activities, and address challenges affecting their families and communities. A key part of the program is community involvement, where women come together to share experiences, support one another, and participate in activities that strengthen their families and communities. The program also provides a space for women to receive encouragement and practical support as they work towards better livelihoods and stronger families.

Standing in Prayer is another important part of the program. Women come together in prayer to seek spiritual strength, hope, guidance, and encouragement. This creates a sense of unity and belonging while helping women face their daily challenges with renewed faith and confidence.

The Sew with Light Program focuses on skills training, particularly in sewing and tailoring. Women are equipped with practical skills that can help them become more self-reliant, generate income, and support their families. Beyond learning a skill, the program encourages creativity, confidence, and the ability to turn skills into sustainable opportunities.

Skills Development

Our training sessions are often led by an experienced sewing instructor with practical knowledge of all aspects of the sewing process, including fabric preparation and cutting, machine operation, pattern design, measurements, stitching, and other essential sewing techniques.

Women and teen mothers participate in training sessions according to their individual learning needs and pace. Because participants learn at different rates, key training activities are repeated and reinforced throughout the sessions. This supportive approach gives each participant sufficient time to practice, develop confidence, and fully understand the skills being taught.

The training provides a supportive environment where women and teen mothers can learn at their own pace, practice their skills, and gain confidence through guidance, mentorship, and peer support. These skills contribute to their personal growth and future livelihoods.

Economic Empowerment

During our sewing programs, we decide on the materials we are to use basing on the number of the women and to keep our program under the budget we usually buy in large quantities and divide the materials that suit every day. It is very expensive if we purchase in half portions but with large quantity of materials we are able to get at least extra 8 – 10 materials in the large pack

In order to be able to meet the number of the attendees the (mothers and teen mothers) we organized materials meant to use specifically for each and every program. We are able to give materials accordingly the first learners use a lot of materials compared to those with three to four weekly experiences. These two group grading allows us the ability to divide and provide materials according for the sessions.

Community Participation

Our women and teen mothers’ community is steadily improving as participants remain actively engaged in the programs. With sessions taking place three times a week, many women and teen mothers who previously struggled with negative behaviours now have meaningful activities that keep them occupied. This regular involvement provides a positive environment where they can focus on learning, personal growth, and building better habits.

We are encouraged to see the strong sense of community developing through the sewing program. As women learn and work together, they support one another, share their experiences, and build lasting relationships. The program has become more than just a space for skills training; it has created an environment where women feel valued, connected, and encouraged.

The spirit of cooperation also extends beyond the centre and into the wider community. Women and teen mothers have increasingly become a source of support for one another, looking out for each other and offering help when needed. It is inspiring to see them becoming each other’s support system and contributing to a more caring, united, and supportive community.
