Save Sunshine Shelter Kids runs clothing and sanitary ware projects for street kids and vulnerable communities to address basic needs that are often overlooked. For many children living on the streets or in impoverished areas, access to clean clothing and sanitary supplies is a daily struggle.
Without proper clothing, children face health issues, social isolation, and stigma, while the lack of sanitary ware, especially for girls, disrupts school attendance, hygiene, and self-esteem.
These projects not only meet immediate needs but also restore dignity and confidence in children. By providing sanitary pads, young girls can attend school regularly without fear or shame during menstruation.
Clean clothes offer them a sense of belonging and improve their overall well-being.
Additionally, these initiatives raise awareness about hygiene and health, equipping communities with knowledge and resources to better their lives.
Many of these programs involve local participation, fostering community support. Save Sunshine Shelter’s efforts are vital in breaking the cycle of poverty, improving health, and offering hope for a brighter future.
Lack of sanitary pads is a major barrier for girls, affecting their education and community participation. To empower them, we provide 3-4 packs of sanitary pads per term to ensure they don’t miss school due to menstruation. We deliver “Always” pads, which are affordable and commonly used, with additional donations from supporters. Our initiative supports both schoolgirls and vulnerable women, ensuring they can confidently manage their periods without fear or stigma. Now is the time to stand up for the rights of girls and create lasting change across Uganda.
The project provides vulnerable women with essential sanitary products, easing their daily struggles as they balance being breadwinners and caregivers. By ensuring they have these basic necessities, Save Sunshine Shelter helps them manage their responsibilities with dignity, removing the stress of lacking menstrual supplies and allowing them to focus on their families and work.
Providing sanitary ware helps girls stay in school and engage in daily activities without fear of stigma. This initiative empowers them to pursue education and future goals, showing them they are equal participants in society. By reducing the barriers caused by menstruation, girls can focus on their dreams and grow into confident, capable women.
The project promotes sanitation and personal hygiene, helping girls maintain their confidence and safety. With access to sanitary ware, they can participate fully in school and community life. This initiative not only improves health and hygiene but also ensures that girls have the opportunity to thrive, free from stigma and inequality, in a supportive environment.
Our partnership model is founded on meaningful relationships. Before any support is extended to a program or project, we take the time to build connections and understand each other's goals.
To enhance our efforts, we collaborate with manufacturing companies that donate sanitary ware for community distribution. This partnership enables us to provide high-quality products while supporting corporate social responsibility initiatives focused on the health of women and girls. When identifying potential partnerships, we prioritize communities with strong leadership structures.
We regularly assess the needs of girls and women in different localities to identify those who lack access to sanitary pads. This includes both school-aged girls and vulnerable groups, such as young mothers.
We collaborate with former teachers, schools, and community leaders to distribute pads directly to girls in schools and women in communities. This ensures a steady and reliable supply.
Every school term, we provide each girl with 3-4 packs of sanitary pads, which cover the entire term. We also deliver pads monthly to vulnerable women in the community to ensure they have the support they need.
We leave extra boxes of sanitary pads at schools with teachers and community representatives, ensuring emergency access for any girl in need.
"Always" sanitary pads are the most affordable and widely accepted in the region, so we typically provide them. However, we also distribute other donated brands from supporters, expanding the options available.
Alongside distribution, we raise awareness about the importance of menstrual hygiene and the rights of girls to education without interruption. This helps reduce stigma and empowers communities to support their girls.
